What does this mean for supporters?
Ticketholders at both the Joie Stadium and Etihad Stadium will have the option to drink alcohol in their seats during WSL fixtures. However, the Joie Stadium’s Family Area (West Stand Blocks 1, 2, and 3) and Blocks 037-042 at the Etihad Stadium will remain alcohol-free, ensuring fans have a choice of seating. Season Ticket Members can relocate their seats until 13th July by contacting Fan Support.
Why is alcohol allowed in women’s football?
Unlike men’s professional football in England, women’s football is not governed by the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc.) Act 1985, which bans alcohol consumption in view of the pitch. This means WSL clubs can permit in-bowl drinking, provided they meet league safety requirements. Manchester City Women emphasized responsible drinking and warned that unacceptable behavior would result in ejection and possible sanctions.
