Manchester City Women have secured the services of Beth Mead, the WSL assist queen, on a free transfer. The England international joins the Women's Super League champions after leaving Arsenal at the end of the 2025-26 season.

What happened?

Mead played 167 WSL games for Arsenal, ranking fourth in the club's all-time appearances in the competition. Her tally of 104 WSL goal involvements for Arsenal trails only Vivianne Miedema's 115. Mead holds the record for assists in the top flight with 54.

Why it matters for Manchester City Women

The 31-year-old failed to agree on fresh terms with Arsenal and has now penned a three-year deal with City. "I'm very proud to be here," Mead told City's club media. "City had an amazing season last year, and I am excited to start a new chapter here."

What comes next?

Mead ranks fifth in the all-time WSL goals charts with 72. City's director of football, Therese Sjogran, said: "Beth's achievements in the game speak for themselves, so we're delighted to bring her to the club." As of June 26, 2026, Manchester City Women sit top of the FA WSL with 55 points from 22 games, having won 18, drawn 1, and lost 3, with a recent form of WWLWW. | Stat | Value | | --- | --- | | League standing | 1st in FA WSL | | Points | 55 | | Goal difference | +43 | | Lead at the top | 4 points clear of Arsenal W
